On July 17th, Houston Rockets' player Yao Ming posted a question on LinkedIn, an online professional networking site with more than 24 million members. This is the first featured question that an athlete has ever posed on LinkedIn.
The question will be live on the site and open to receiving responses from LinkedIn users for a week.
Unlike some celebrities and athletes that use flashy profile pages on other sites as a way to publicize their glamorous lifestyles or latest sneaker designs, Yao decided to create a profile on LinkedIn to help others (by drawing attention to his foundation) and to reach LinkedIn's professional audience.
Here's the question Yao is asking LinkedIn users:
"Playing basketball has allowed me to realize my dream of playing in the Olympics. It has also given me the ability to establish a foundation that can help people in need. Has participating in sports made an important difference in your professional life?"

Here's what Yao has to say about his experience in working with an online networking site to promote his foundation:
"I'd like to thank the LinkedIn users for taking the time to respond to my question. I appreciate your many thoughtful answers and would like to thank you for the kind words and good wishes. I hope you will continue to support the rebuilding efforts in China to help deserving children find schools where they can learn in safety."
Yao also picked the five winners that received 20 raffle tickets each as a result of providing the best responses to his question on LinkedIn.
